7 Things I’ve Learned In Private Practice

Starting a private practice is relatively easy and straightforward, but getting new consistent clients is the hardest part.

  1. If I waited until I was 100% ready, I’d still be working for someone else.

  2. Most clients don’t care if you’re a social worker, marriage and family therapist, mental health counselor, or psychologist. They just want to feel better (and the ones that do care, won’t be a good fit for you)

  3. Working in private practice means you are a business owner. You are in charge of everything!

  4. I can make a living wage AND work with a wide range of clients, give back, and take time off for a life outside of work.

  5. Private practice is hard, but worth it. I’d much rather be in charge of my work than work for a group practice.

  6. What works for someone else’s business may not (and probably doesn't) work for me (and that’s okay).

  7. My worst day in private practice is still better than most days in agency life and/or group practice life.
